Drawer Glides & Slides
The smooth operation of a drawer can only be ensured with the right
kind of glide or slide. You cannot expect to finish a drawer construction
without taking adequate consideration as to what kind of slider it is seated
on. Although a really simple component, there is quite a lot that goes into it
which makes it one of the important aspects of any drawer.
Firstly, you can choose the exact kind of technology that you want to
use when you design the drawer. There are two main options in this category,
one is to use the ball bearing mechanism and the other one is to use a
hydraulic mechanism. While both mechanisms have their advantages, you might
have to spend a little more if you plan to use a hydraulic model for your
system.
Next, you can buy the slider based on the material that you want to
use to build the slider with. Most often, sliders are built using stainless
steel with some sort of a coating. The higher end variety comes with epoxy
coating so that you get a smooth finish and a durable material at the same
time. The other factor that you need to consider with gliders and sliders is
the length that you require. A correct length will ensure that your drawers
open and close smoothly.
